At the weekend I watched the All Blacks beat the the British and Irish Lions in a rugby stadium they haven't lost in since 1994. When I watched the two time world champions beat a team made up of the very best players from four different countries I asked myself the question "why are they the best?'. The reason they are the best and two time world champions is because they perfect the basics. One to fifteen can all do basics skills faster and under pressure; Every member of the squad's work rate is 100% around the field and 150% if someone makes a half break; Their focus is for the full 80mins never giving a minute for rest. These three basic's of skills, work rate and focus is what makes them the best and the reason year after year, player after player they produce high quality rugby. My second thought was "what is we applied these 3 basics to a personal trainers business?".
If a personal trainer who has just finished their level 3 qualification got the skills needed to build a business, a business plan broken down to insure their productivity and work rate was always at 100% and finally having a financial/business goal to keep their focus on what they need to achieve, most personal trainers would be successful.
Working with personal trainers all over the UK, many new personal trainers believe that doing lots of different skilled courses such as kettle bells, TRX, Powerplate, Vipr etc. will improve their business, when in reality they lean many different training skills non which help build a business. My advice to new personal trainers is keep the basics simple:
- Be a weight loss specialist as thats 90% of our business.
- Learn the skills to help build your business.
- Have a business plan.
- Have a financial/Business Goal.
Give it a try.
